I am posting this message to let you all know how to get an A in my book on your rp exam. This message will be locked after this post so no commenting on it. Just read and you'll know exactly what I want from you.
Flow and Function
Roleplaying on a forum is far different than roleplaying tabletop. Instead of speaking the words and telling everyone what your actions are, you have to actually write them down in a way that is pleasing for others to read. You are essentially contributing to a huge story. Anyways, in order for it to be interesting, you must have good Flow. Flow is making sure what you type seems to run smoothly so that readers can transition from one sentence to another.
GOOD FLOW: using different words to start sentences, use transitions, use proper grammar, end current actions elegantly.
BAD FLOW: Using same word to start sentences, jump around with actions, end current actions abruptly.
my grade weight for flow is about 30%
Grammar and Spelling
Grammar is just that, using proper grammar to convey your meaning. There is nothing more annoying than to see the wrong word used, unless it is used to annoy a certain grammar nazi. (wary wary wary wary wary wary wary). Grammar can be as small as a wrong punctuation, or as big as fragment sentences. Spelling is also a big thing. spelling words wrong will make people guess what you mean and just overall make your post look bad. most newer browsers have an auto form spellchecker (IE 7 and Firefox 2.0+ do) so you can use that to see any words you might have misspelled and correct them. otherwise, I believe this site has a spellchecker so use it.
Spelling and grammar are about 10% of my grade weight for a combined total of 20%
Character
This is the most important thing about roleplaying. In any of your posts, you need to remember to tell us what your character is doing, how he feels, what he is thinking, and any action he might preform. Describe his surroundings and how he reacts to them. The most annoying thing ever is watching someone who says their character is happy and hyper, but plays them seriously. Always make sure you stay in character at all times.
in most instances, you can explain your characters thoughts, surroundings, feelings, and actions and get a good 3 paragraph long post.
Characters have a grade weight of 50%
ok so lets break it down.
Flow: 30%
Grammar: 10%
Spelling: 10%
Character: 50%
E: graded below 10%
D: Graded 11% - 50%
C: Graded 51% - 80%
B: Graded 81% - 99%
A: Graded 100%
I really hope this helps everyone understand what I'm looking for. Also, just cause I'm nice, I'm going to go ahead and put a nice list for everyone
1) No () in the middle of posts
2) Always stay in character
3) don't use present tense (Jumped, Jumps, going to jump)
well anyways, If I think of more I'll add it here.
